paint color party…

Just when I had decided that I didn’t have anything exciting enough to say that would be blog worthy today I found out about the paint color party at 320 Sycamore.  What could be more exciting than sharing our favorite paint colors?   I was also excited because I could recycle some old pictures since my camera had a little accident this past weekend and isn’t working too well.  These are a few of the favorites in my house, all from Benjamin Moore.

I am up to my eyeballs in graduation preparation and entertaining out of town guests but when I read the word lampapalooza I dropped everything to come to the party.  You can read all about my love (some might call it an addiction) of lamps here, here and here!

just can’t get enough…

Have you seen this new collection?  All of the girls in this house have needed dresses for recent functions.  The first few we splurged for here and here.  Just about the time that the budget was getting crunched I came across these little gems during one of my many weekly trips and we are hooked.  Love the classic looks for a lot less $$.  Picked up the first one for the graduating daughter to wear to the school sponsored party at a local country club.  The back is really cute and it is adorable on her little size 2 frame.  Dress #2 is for college girl to wear to little sister’s graduation.  Again, classic, well made and affordable!  Dress #3 is for yours truly…one of my favorite styles and perfect with the black patent sandals I scored at Marshall’s for $20.  The last dress is one I still have my eye on.  The pattern is very similar to one that was offered here last year.  There are many (not just dresses) great pieces in this collection and it is now the first place I head when I enter the store.  Hope they will keep adding to and keep this around, it is so nice to have these kind of stylish & budget friendly options at a place that I frequent so much!

Oh, and I promise once we are all looking good and finish up with the graduation festivities I will get back to the decorating posts!  Thanks for hanging in there!

imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…

I saw this fabulous idea for a banner on Christy’s blog the other day and just had to make one of my own.  We both have daughters graduating from high school and will be entertaining family and friends to celebrate.  I am not one to stick with traditional “theme” parties so buying the pre-made (and expensive) graduation decorations from the party store was out of the question.  I had already decided to do geraniums for my table arrangements, my daughter’s main school color is red (it has been paired with gray, black and white on the various school paraphernalia).  I had been looking for simple galvanized buckets to use as planters but couldn’t find them anywhere this year.  I remembered that the home improvement store had some so I headed there to check it out when I came across something even better…paint cans!  I will be decorating them with the same paper used for the banner, they will be perfect for our old fashioned backyard BBQ!  I pulled out my white tablecloths (cheap white sheets I bought for another function from that store I love to hate) and picked up a package of 6 red napkins here on clearance for $2.50 (yes, for the whole pack) to use in the center of each table under the arrangements.  I try to use “real” dishes whenever possible but with the number of guests we are having and being outside that wasn’t feasible.  When I do use disposable I always use clear plastic plates, cups and utensils that way if I don’t use it all it gets put away and can be added to and easily used with any color or theme at another time.  I will usually buy a colored napkin and will often wrap the utensils in them and tie up with some coordinating ribbon to help them look more substantial.   I am off to finish up my projects and pray it doesn’t rain next Saturday!

first impressions…

I have been busy “fluffing” the front of our house in preparation for the upcoming graduation celebration we will be having here.  Just a few small changes that help to say welcome to all of the guests that will be coming to visit.  The change I am most excited about is one that you can barely see…look in picture #2, see that little black hose on the left side?  My sweet husband had the lawn company install sprinklers in my window boxes so I won’t ever have to water them ever again!  I think he realized that this was more economical then constantly replacing the flowers that I would forget to water!

I am still here…

just have a lot on my mind and a lot going on.  Several families in our community have recently suffered various unconnected life changing events that have caused a lot of pain and suffering.  We have been praying for all of those involved and taking time to really think and pray about the priorities of our own family.  With that said, blogging has obviously taken a back seat in my life the past few weeks.  I have tried to keep up with reading some of my favorites but  haven’t done much commenting.  I am still trying to hit that 100th post and promise a give away when I finally do! Things are also busy around here with end of the year activities and family coming to town for graduation.  I hope you all will bare with me as I am sporadic in my posting these next few weeks.  Thought this would be an easy way to share what it going on with me this week…simple-woman-daybook-large

Outside my window the weather is clearing (finally) and the birds are singing.

I am thinking about getting on the treadmill.

I am thankful for my family who spoils me on Mother’s day and everyday.

From the kitchen…I need to plan some meals and get to the grocery store.

I am wearing workout clothes (treadmill really is calling).

I am reading the magazines that filled my mailbox last week.

I am hoping for an uneventful day!

I am creating…working on a few small projects around the house.

I am hearing the washer and dryer going.

Around the house we are busy getting ready for graduation company and party later this month.

One of my favorite things is all the gifts I received yesterday (gift cards to several of my favorite places, perfume and a wicker bike basket).

A few plans for the rest of the week…shop for graduation gifts, a few tennis matches, lunch with a friend.
